Quran Verses About Forgiveness (المغفرة)

قُلْ يَٰعِبَادِىَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا۟ عَلَىٰٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ لَا تَقْنَطُوا۟ مِن رَّحْمَةِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ ٱلذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعًا

Qul yaa'ibaadiyal lazeena asrafoo 'alaaa anfusihim laa taqnatoo mirrahmatil laah; innal laaha yaghfiruz zunooba jamee'aa

Say, "O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins."

The most hopeful verse in the Quran - ALL sins are forgivable through sincere repentance.

وَمَن يَعْمَلْ سُوٓءًا أَوْ يَظْلِمْ نَفْسَهُۥ ثُمَّ يَسْتَغْفِرِ ٱللَّهَ يَجِدِ ٱللَّهَ غَفُورًۭا رَّحِيمًۭا

Wa mai ya'mal sooo'an aw yazlim nafsahoo summa yastaghfiril laaha yajidil laaha Ghafoorar Raheemaa

And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of Allah will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful.

Seek forgiveness and you WILL find Allah forgiving - it's a guarantee.

وَٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا فَعَلُوا۟ فَٰحِشَةً أَوْ ظَلَمُوٓا۟ أَنفُسَهُمْ ذَكَرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ فَٱسْتَغْفَرُوا۟ لِذُنُوبِهِمْ

Wallazeena izaa fa'aloo faahishatan aw zalamooo anfusahum zakarul laaha fastaghfaroo lizunoobihim

And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves, remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins.

The key is remembering Allah AFTER sinning - not staying in guilt but turning back to Him.

إِلَّا مَن تَابَ وَءَامَنَ وَعَمِلَ عَمَلًۭا صَٰلِحًۭا فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ يُبَدِّلُ ٱللَّهُ سَيِّـَٔاتِهِمْ حَسَنَٰتٍۢ

Illaa man taaba wa 'aamana wa 'amila 'amalan saalihan fa ulaaa'ika yubad dilul laahu saiyi aatihim hasanaat

Except for those who repent, believe and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good.

Allah doesn't just forgive - He CONVERTS your bad deeds into good ones. SubhanAllah.

وَهُوَ ٱلَّذِى يَقْبَلُ ٱلتَّوْبَةَ عَنْ عِبَادِهِۦ وَيَعْفُوا۟ عَنِ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ

Wa Huwal lazee yaqbalut tawbata 'an 'ibaadihee wa ya'foo 'anis saiyiaati

And it is He who accepts repentance from His servants and pardons misdeeds.

Allah actively ACCEPTS repentance - He doesn't just tolerate it, He welcomes it.

وَأَنِ ٱسْتَغْفِرُوا۟ رَبَّكُمْ ثُمَّ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِ يُمَتِّعْكُم مَّتَٰعًا حَسَنًا

Wa anis taghfiroo Rabbakum summa toobooo ilaihi yumatti'kum mataa'an hasanan

Seek forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him, and He will let you enjoy a good provision.

Forgiveness leads to worldly benefits too - a good life and Allah's provision.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ تُوبُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱللَّهِ تَوْبَةًۭ نَّصُوحًا

Yaaa ayyuhal lazeena aammano toobooo ilal laahi tawbatan nasoohan

O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance.

Tawbah Nasuha - sincere repentance that you truly mean, with intention not to return to the sin.

وَمَا كَانَ ٱللَّهُ مُعَذِّبَهُمْ وَهُمْ يَسْتَغْفِرُونَ

wa maa kaanal laahu mu'az zibahum wa hum yastaghfiroon

And Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.

Istighfar (seeking forgiveness) is a shield from punishment.

وَلْيَعْفُوا۟ وَلْيَصْفَحُوٓا۟ ۗ أَلَا تُحِبُّونَ أَن يَغْفِرَ ٱللَّهُ لَكُمْ

walya'foo walyasfahoo; alaa tuhibboona ai yaghfiral laahu lakum

Let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you?

Forgive others if you want Allah to forgive you - a powerful motivator.
