Quran Verses About Love (الحب)
Love in the Quran encompasses divine love between Allah and His servants, the love between spouses, and compassion between all people. These verses show that love is central to Islam.
قُلْ إِن كُنتُمْ تُحِبُّونَ ٱللَّهَ فَٱتَّبِعُونِى يُحْبِبْكُمُ ٱللَّهُ
Qul in kuntum tuhibboonal laaha fattabi' oonee yuhbibkumul laahu wa yaghfir lakum zunoobakum
Say, "If you should love Allah, then follow me, so Allah will love you and forgive you your sins."
The path to Allah's love is following the Prophet (ﷺ).
وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ أَشَدُّ حُبًّۭا لِّلَّهِ
wallazeena aamanooo ashaddu hubbal lillah
But those who believe are stronger in love for Allah.
The believers' love for Allah surpasses all other love.
وَمِنْ ءَايَٰتِهِۦٓ أَنْ خَلَقَ لَكُم مِّنْ أَنفُسِكُمْ أَزْوَٰجًۭا لِّتَسْكُنُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهَا وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةًۭ وَرَحْمَةً
Wa min Aayaatiheee an khalaqa lakum min anfusikum azwaajal litaskunooo ilaihaa wa ja'ala bainakum mawad datanw wa rahmah
And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquillity in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy.
Marriage is a sign of Allah - He placed love (mawaddah) and mercy (rahmah) between spouses.
وَهُوَ ٱلْغَفُورُ ٱلْوَدُودُ
Wa Huwal Ghafoorul Wadood
And He is the Forgiving, the Affectionate (Al-Wadud).
Al-Wadud - Allah is the Most Loving, the source of all love.
إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ سَيَجْعَلُ لَهُمُ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ وُدًّۭا
Innal lazeena aamanoo wa 'amilus saalihaati sa yaj'alu lahumur Rahmaanu wuddaa
Indeed, those who have believed and done righteous deeds - the Most Merciful will appoint for them affection.
Allah places love for the righteous in the hearts of people.
فَسَوْفَ يَأْتِى ٱللَّهُ بِقَوْمٍۢ يُحِبُّهُمْ وَيُحِبُّونَهُۥٓ
fasawfa yaatil laahu biqawminy yuhibbuhum wa yuhibboonahoo
Allah will bring forth a people He will love and who will love Him.
Mutual love - Allah loves them AND they love Him.
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَٰكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍۢ وَأُنثَىٰ وَجَعَلْنَٰكُمْ شُعُوبًۭا وَقَبَآئِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوٓا۟
Yaaa ayyuhan naasu innaa khalaqnaakum min zakarinw wa unsaa wa ja'alnaakum shu'oobanw wa qabaaa'ila lita'aarafoo
O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another.
Diversity is for connection and love - "that you may know one another."
وَٱلْكَٰظِمِينَ ٱلْغَيْظَ وَٱلْعَافِينَ عَنِ ٱلنَّاسِ ۗ وَٱللَّهُ يُحِبُّ ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
wal kaazimeenal ghaiza wal aafeena 'anin-naas; wallaahu yuhibbul muhsineen
Who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allah loves the doers of good.
Allah loves those who control anger and forgive - love expressed through mercy.
لَّا يَنْهَىٰكُمُ ٱللَّهُ عَنِ ٱلَّذِينَ لَمْ يُقَٰتِلُوكُمْ فِى ٱلدِّينِ... أَن تَبَرُّوهُمْ وَتُقْسِطُوٓا۟ إِلَيْهِمْ
Laa yanhaakumul laahu 'anil lazeena lam yuqaatilookum fid deeni... an tabarroohum wa tuqsitooo ilaihim
Allah does not forbid you from being righteous and just toward those who do not fight you because of religion.
Islam commands kindness and justice toward all peaceful people, regardless of faith.
